Everything but the kitchen sink

Let’s admit it. We all have lives. We all have things going on. And I’m sure there are nights the last thing we want to be doing is slaving away in the kitchen. Working two jobs, I honestly feel like there are not enough weeks in a month, days in a week, or hours in a day. With only a few nights off a week to get all my errands run, laundry washed, apartment cleaned, and dinner made/posts written, there are really nights when I’ve had it up to here.

Just HOT enough

Driving to work today, I realized I don’t remember what it is like to be warm. Seriously. The only time I am warm is when I’m at the gym working out or at home taking a hot shower. Clearly, I’m reconsidering my decision to remain in the Midwest. Why didn’t I pack up an move to LA or somewhere that is warm and sunny? I’m not a winter person. This whole cold thing, no thanks!

We Jammin'

I think mid-January is my least favorite time of year. Football is almost over, the once beautiful fluffy snow is now grey slush, there are no days off to look forward to, no parties to get all dolled up for in a little black cocktail dress, the sun hasn’t shown it’s face in weeks, and it has been too cold to go snowboarding. Thanks, but I’m ready for winter to be over!

Spicing up the kitchen...

We all have ‘that’ dish that we tend to fall back on. You know, the one you can whip up in your sleep. The one that when you really want to impress someone, you pull this one out. Mine is a miso marinated sea bass. Not only is this my go to dish when trying to impress someone, it is also my go to dish when I just can’t think of anything else to make.

Pizza Night

One of my favorite parts about cooking is making things for other people. My all time favorite part though, cooking with someone else. It is so much fun to spend a random evening in instead of going out. Opening a bottle of good (cheap) wine, great conversation, and inevitably, something dropping on the floor. Knowing, at the end of the meal, that you made this together somehow make everything taste just a little bit better. Even if all he did was chop the herbs!

BIG night in...

If you would have told me five years ago that I would be eating…no, wait, CRAVING lamb, I would have laughed in your face. See, here’s a little secret about me. Until I was about 23, I didn’t eat vegetables. At all. Seriously. I was more of a pasta with extra cheese, pizza, chicken finger, and cheeseburger kind of girl. I’d eat a steak on occasion, but I preferred anything fast (ah, Taco Bell, how I miss you). I did go through a pseudo-vegetarian phase in high school but needless to say, lamb was not on the menu.
