Growing up...

Taking a month off drinking in the same month you start a new job, paint your apartment, do a cooking demonstration for 30+ people, and deal with the day to day nonsense going on is a terrible idea. Looking back on the brilliant idea I had to not drink in the month of May was probably one of the worst things my crazy brain conjured up.

Let's Get Ready for Some Grillin!

Ladies and gentlemen, it is official. It is grillin’ season! So I would venture a guess and say that spring time aka grilling season, is one of my favorite times of the year. The smoky air, the hot fire, the sear on the meat….is your mouth watering? Mine is! It reached an unseasonably high 82 degrees here in the Northwest ‘burbs of Chicago the other day, and let me tell you, I was ready and willing to take advantage of it! To go along with the hOtT night, UFC was offering up some free fights on Spike. Yes, you heard me right…I’m a big UFC fan. Uh-huh, I know all about headlocks and kimoras and toe holds. I’m a nerd, but some guys think it’s kinda hot;)

Girls just wanna have fun!

One of the things I have missed out on while working so much is happy hour. I know I’ve mentioned it before, but c’mon, I’m young, I’m thirsty, I wanna have fun! There is something awesome about getting off work after a long week knowing there is going to be an ice cold, freshly shaken, Ketel One martini waiting for you (straight up please, no lime, no twist, no olives). Don’t get me wrong, I love working. Seriously. But every once and awhile, a girl just wants to let her hair down and put her party panties on.

Just HOT enough

Driving to work today, I realized I don’t remember what it is like to be warm. Seriously. The only time I am warm is when I’m at the gym working out or at home taking a hot shower. Clearly, I’m reconsidering my decision to remain in the Midwest. Why didn’t I pack up an move to LA or somewhere that is warm and sunny? I’m not a winter person. This whole cold thing, no thanks!

We Jammin'

I think mid-January is my least favorite time of year. Football is almost over, the once beautiful fluffy snow is now grey slush, there are no days off to look forward to, no parties to get all dolled up for in a little black cocktail dress, the sun hasn’t shown it’s face in weeks, and it has been too cold to go snowboarding. Thanks, but I’m ready for winter to be over!

Another 'niblet'

Whether you want to admit it or not, December is already almost over. Seriously, Christmas is literally right around the corner. And if you are anything like me, you’ve left most of your holiday shopping for the last minute. Which means you’ve left yourself roughly 5 days to buy presents for like 10 people. Normally, any other year, that wouldn’t be an issue, but did you know that when you work about 80 hours a week, that doesn’t leave much time for shopping? Yeah…it leaves Sunday morning. Awesome.

Mexican Fiesta??? My favorite!!!

I’ve come to the conclusion that I can rarely just enjoy a meal in a restaurant. I always find myself wondering what I would do differently, how I would tailor the dish to my likes, and what other flavors, textures, or colors (weird, I know) would work with it. Lunch my first day in Napa was no different.

Pampering the Princess...

I never call in sick to work. Never. In fact, I rarely ever miss a day of work (for jobs I really enjoy at least…). My parents instilled me with one of the strongest, greatest, most amazing work ethics, which might explain why I am a workaholic. Anyway, I didn’t go into work tonight. I went to my full time day job most of the day, but I didn’t go into the restaurant tonight. Apparently, I threw my back out. So I can’t stand up, sit down, fight, Fight, FIGHT! Sorry, I was a cheerleader…for a week…in high school…to win a dare. But for real, can’t sit comfortably, can’t stand up comfortably, can’t lay down comfortably. In fact, everything I do causes these lightening bolts to shoot down my legs.

One of the fews times being a little 'crabby' is good....

I know I said it right when I got back from Napa, but I'm going to say it again...I'm sorry I've been a posting slacker. I promise I'm going to do everything in my power to get better about it. I wish I had some awesome excuse like I've been travelling through the Bahamas or something, but I don't. I'm just trying to get settled into a routine with the new job and yeah...I'm just making lameo excuses. No more. I promise, I'll start posting again with my old enthusiasm and vigor! Starting right....NOW! I just recently had my first taste of succulent crab meat. It was my mom’s boyfriend’s birthday (good luck following that one) and we went out with a group for all you can eat crab legs. I was EXTREMELY hesitant at first because I had only ever had imitation crab meat, like in crab Rangoon. Our fabulous server brought me out a leg to try before I committed to the whole, “All-You-Can-Eat”.

Hot and Spicy Nights

It’s cold, wet, and rainy. As much as I love fall, I hate that deep bone chill it can leave you with. You know the one…only a steamy shower will warm you up, and sometimes, even that isn’t enough. Especially the day after getting back from Napa. Where it was 80 and sunny. I knew I wanted to make something fun for dinner with it being my first night back and all.
