No more messy monster

I decided in 2010 to face my demons head on. That’s right, no more messy monster for this girl. No more flour in unmentionable parts. No more flour in the hair. No more flour on the ceiling, flour, and refrigerator (it’s happened, believe me). I’m turning over a new, cleaner, flour free leaf this year.

We Jammin'

I think mid-January is my least favorite time of year. Football is almost over, the once beautiful fluffy snow is now grey slush, there are no days off to look forward to, no parties to get all dolled up for in a little black cocktail dress, the sun hasn’t shown it’s face in weeks, and it has been too cold to go snowboarding. Thanks, but I’m ready for winter to be over!

Spicing up the kitchen...

We all have ‘that’ dish that we tend to fall back on. You know, the one you can whip up in your sleep. The one that when you really want to impress someone, you pull this one out. Mine is a miso marinated sea bass. Not only is this my go to dish when trying to impress someone, it is also my go to dish when I just can’t think of anything else to make.

Another 'niblet'

Whether you want to admit it or not, December is already almost over. Seriously, Christmas is literally right around the corner. And if you are anything like me, you’ve left most of your holiday shopping for the last minute. Which means you’ve left yourself roughly 5 days to buy presents for like 10 people. Normally, any other year, that wouldn’t be an issue, but did you know that when you work about 80 hours a week, that doesn’t leave much time for shopping? Yeah…it leaves Sunday morning. Awesome.

Mexican Fiesta??? My favorite!!!

I’ve come to the conclusion that I can rarely just enjoy a meal in a restaurant. I always find myself wondering what I would do differently, how I would tailor the dish to my likes, and what other flavors, textures, or colors (weird, I know) would work with it. Lunch my first day in Napa was no different.

Pampering the Princess...

I never call in sick to work. Never. In fact, I rarely ever miss a day of work (for jobs I really enjoy at least…). My parents instilled me with one of the strongest, greatest, most amazing work ethics, which might explain why I am a workaholic. Anyway, I didn’t go into work tonight. I went to my full time day job most of the day, but I didn’t go into the restaurant tonight. Apparently, I threw my back out. So I can’t stand up, sit down, fight, Fight, FIGHT! Sorry, I was a cheerleader…for a week…in high school…to win a dare. But for real, can’t sit comfortably, can’t stand up comfortably, can’t lay down comfortably. In fact, everything I do causes these lightening bolts to shoot down my legs.

One of the fews times being a little 'crabby' is good....

I know I said it right when I got back from Napa, but I'm going to say it again...I'm sorry I've been a posting slacker. I promise I'm going to do everything in my power to get better about it. I wish I had some awesome excuse like I've been travelling through the Bahamas or something, but I don't. I'm just trying to get settled into a routine with the new job and yeah...I'm just making lameo excuses. No more. I promise, I'll start posting again with my old enthusiasm and vigor! Starting right....NOW! I just recently had my first taste of succulent crab meat. It was my mom’s boyfriend’s birthday (good luck following that one) and we went out with a group for all you can eat crab legs. I was EXTREMELY hesitant at first because I had only ever had imitation crab meat, like in crab Rangoon. Our fabulous server brought me out a leg to try before I committed to the whole, “All-You-Can-Eat”.

What's a girl to do?

Have you ever woken up and thought to yourself, "What am I doing with my life?"? I did. Two months ago. I realized I was a month shy of turning 25, not the end of the world, but scary still, and I have NO IDEA what to do with my life. I work in a cubicle, 9-5 (although my boss thinks I’m on call 24/7, seriously!) doing absolutely nothing with the degree my parents paid way too much for. This was certainly not where I saw my life going 5 years ago. If someone had asked me when I was 18, 19, 20 where I thought I would be in 5 years, I would have answered "Doing something I love, married, starting a family." Yeah...about that....how about none of the above?
