I'm Bringing Summer Back. Well....I'm Trying!

My favorite thing about summer, and the part I miss the most, is grilling out. Nothing tops spending a day by the pool, then coming home to throw something on the grill. The smoky flavor that subtle comes through the taste of whatever marinade you decide to put on your meat or fish…the juices of a burger sizzling over the hot coals…that slightly charred smell that signals perfection. Mmmmmm…I can almost smell the fire!

The Power of Love

Lately, I’ve been feeling a little uninspired, which is why I haven’t been writing as much. I know, I know, I know. I always say I’ll post more, and then I don’t. There has been a little bit of a family crisis going on. Well, actually, a big one. My grandfather has been in the hospital, in ICU, for the last three weeks, so all my free time has been spent driving to my hometown and sitting in his room, talking to him, holding his hand, and trying to help out as much as possible. Huevos Rancheros? More Like Huevos Tatiyanas

Breakfast has to be my favorite meal. But during the week, it is usually just fresh fruit or some oatmeal. I’m not a morning person. I would much rather spend the 10-15 minutes it would take me to make breakfast in bed snuggling. And sleeping. But mostly snuggling. Weekends though, weekends are another story. For starters, most of the time, I don’t have anywhere to be in the morning, which leaves more time for snuggling, coffee drinking and breakfast. Also, I can wake up on my terms, so there is no Captain Cranky Pants stumbling into the kitchen trying to make something to eat. (I’m Captain Cranky Pants in case you weren’t sure).

It's Still Apple Season...

Ahhh, fall. How I love you! I’ve already professed my love of fall for things like pumpkin cookies, FOOTBALL, and chili. Things I don’t love? Tomatoes, cucumbers, sea urchin, raw onions, and shrimp. Weird combination, I know. I’ve been trying really hard to be a grown up about the above mentioned foods, but it’s really tough-even though I’m forced to cut no fewer than 10 tomatoes EVERY Saturday when I work in the kitchen at the restaurant. Even though, Carlos knows I hate tomatoes, I see him smile every time he tells me that is on my list of things to do.
