Lazy Sunday Mornings

Ahhh, Sunday morning. I love you. I love no alarm clocks, waking up to the sound of one of our cholo’s sprinklers, nice breeze in the bedroom, fan circling overhead, Bug snuggling up nice and close to me. Finally, nothing planned for the weekend, nowhere to be, no commitments, nothing but a possible Cubs game, Chicago architecture tour, and a nice slow breakfast.

Finally Settled...

We’ve been working hard since getting into the new place to make it feel like home. Finally, we’re just about done though!! No more asking “Babe, do you remember which box I packed my bikini in?” or “Have you seen the box with the remotes?” or best of all…no more tripping on boxes in the middle of the night!! The new place finally has our touch on it, and it looks great!

Happy Birthday to me!

So it’s been awhile, again, I know. But there have been a ton of really GREAT changes… For starters, I moved to Chicago!!! I’m finally a city girl, who lives with her awesome boyfriend! Sure the neighborhood might not be the absolute best, but it isn’t terrible. And I did make friends with the locals…I was the typical cheerleader girl in her little shorts, high ponytail, and t-shirt on move in day. I wish someone would have had a camera when I came bouncing off the back to the moving truck to introduce myself to one of our ‘neighbors’. “Hi, I’m Tatiyana, I’m your new neighbor, it’s so nice to meet you!!!!” As I stuck my hand out to say hello, the guy looked at me like I had just offered him a snake, haha! He did shake my hand and introduce himself, Reuben in my first new friend in the city. And sure the commute to work is about an hour, but I get to see the city skyline on my drive home. And my gym is only 3 miles from my apartment AND there is a TARGET across the street!!! Target is one of my happy places, so imagine my delight when I saw there was one right next to my health club.

Sometimes being a grown-up rocks!

So I haven't written in awhile. If you've been following me on Twitter or on Facebook, you'll have noticed I have had a rough June. My dad passed away on June 11, and 13 days later, my grandfather also passed away. I know deep down, they are both in a better place, and are both together, looking down on me. I also know they would be disappointed if I stopped writing, so I'm back at it... When I was a little girl, I had all these glamorous dreams about being an adult. Staying up late, sleeping in, going to parties, and having the freedom to eat whatever you want for dinner. In my fantasies, bills, work, and real life didn’t exist, clearly! While staying up late is a regular occurrence in my life (sometimes for fun, sometimes for work), sleeping in almost never happens, not even on days off. The one thing I can always count on though is being able to have WHATEVER I want for dinner

Dear Dad

The last week has been hands down, without a doubt, the most difficult week of my life. As I'm boarding a plane to Pittsburg to visit my dad in the hospital, I get a call from my brother that he passed away. The next hour after that is all a blur. But I made it to Pittsburg and was able to say my goodbye. This letter to my dad is almost everything else I couldn't say. I know I'm lucky to have had him for the last 26 years, but God, do I msis him. I keep thinking it will get easier, but so far, it hasn't...I've just gotten better at putting a big fake smile on my face. If you're reading this, and you still have your dad, call him and tell him how much you love him...

Falling off the wagon

I wish I could say that I made it all the way through May without drinking, but I didn’t. I couldn’t. But I made it almost to the end…and I did start a week early, so it kind of evens out. Right? We went to this rock-metal-bunny killing kind of music concert on Saturday night, just a few days shy of June 1. I’ll start by saying this concert was not my choice. But we all do some crazy things for love!

Growing up...

Taking a month off drinking in the same month you start a new job, paint your apartment, do a cooking demonstration for 30+ people, and deal with the day to day nonsense going on is a terrible idea. Looking back on the brilliant idea I had to not drink in the month of May was probably one of the worst things my crazy brain conjured up.

On the wagon...but almost off!

The queen of cocktails, the connoisseur of wine, the sipper of tequila is jumping on the wagon. That’s right. I’m hanging up my drinking shoes, at least for the month of May. It hit me last week that in about 5 weeks, I’m going to be putting on my skimpiest bikini, my SPF 4 sunblock (haha!), and basking in the sunlight. The problem, you may ask? I’m not ready for it! And I figure, the easiest way to cut calories is to cut drinking. I’m going to take it one week at a time.

The Ultimate...

Serious question. What is better than rendered bacon grease, cheddar cheese, grilled peppers, and roasted garlic? Adding them to corn bread, that’s what! During my crab leg orgy, I knew I couldn’t just stop at grilled crab legs. C’mon, how fun is that? Cornbread is easy peasy. Let’s kick things up a little.

My last day!

So I finally jumped shipped and am following my dreams! That’s right, no more office manager work for this girl! No more printing invoices, making shipping labels, answering phones, or making coffee. No more being the only woman in an office full of men! Don’t get me wrong, I am beyond grateful for the time I spent with my previous company and understand just how valuable the skills I learned while working there truly are, but finally, after all my years in the working world, I’m doing something I am actually excited for.
